Provide a first aid kit including a first aid report form which can be taken with the worker. Field workers need clear instructions as to what to do in first aid incidents for both clients and workers, including completing the report. |
You should provide first aid kits in addition to your treatment room for any remote areas and for outings. This kit may be tailored to suit the needs of the workers and residents in these areas. |
OHS Regulation 2001 refers to the relevant qualifications of first aiders. You should ensure enough staff are trained to ensure there is always a trained first aider on duty.
|
All field workers should have basic first aid training. |
A registered nurse or a medical practitioner is qualified to provide first aid. |
All new workers need to know what to do if they have an injury that requires first aid. This is important information to be covered in the induction process.
There also should be adequate signage to indicate where first aid facilities are for visitors and contractors.
Employers are required to record what first treatment is provided to workers, contractors or visitors. This information can be recorded in the First Aid book. Note date, name of injured person, time of accident and treatment provided. If the matter is more serious an Incident / Injury Report should be completed.
